Pallet Racking and Warehouse Racking Types We Design and Install

Warehouse Cubed designs and installs storage systems around your inventory, pallet dimensions, load weights, handling equipment, building clearances, and daily workflow. We compare storage density, access, rotation, replenishment, and future expansion to help you choose the right warehouse racking system.

Racking types we work with include:

  • Selective pallet racking: Direct access to every pallet position for operations with many SKUs or frequent inventory movement
  • Double-deep pallet racking: Two-deep storage that increases density when the inventory profile and reach equipment support it
  • Drive-in pallet racking: High-density lanes for larger quantities of similar products
  • Push-back pallet racking: Multi-deep storage with aisle-side loading and unloading
  • Pallet flow racking: Gravity-fed pallet lanes that support first-in, first-out inventory rotation
  • Carton flow racking: Gravity-fed lanes for cases, cartons, and each-pick locations
  • Cantilever racking: Open-front storage for pipe, lumber, furniture, sheet material, and other long or bulky loads
  • Structural racking: Heavy-duty systems for high loads, demanding traffic, or applications that call for structural steel components

Our team can coordinate the rack design with lift-truck aisles, pedestrian routes, docks, sprinklers, columns, lighting, rack protection, and other fixed conditions. We also support material sourcing, permitting and engineering coordination when required, installation, inspection, repair, relocation, and future reconfiguration.

Comparing Warehouse Racking Systems

Each warehouse space balances storage density, direct product access, inventory rotation, and lift-truck movement differently. Many facilities use more than one type of industrial racking.

  • Selective racking: Every pallet position faces an aisle, giving operators direct access to a broad SKU mix. It is flexible and easy to reconfigure, although the additional aisles use more floor space than multi-deep systems. Standard counterbalance or reach trucks may be used when aisle widths, turning space, and rack heights are planned for the selected equipment.
  • Drive-in racking: Lift trucks enter storage lanes to place and retrieve pallets. Reducing the number of aisles creates high storage density, making this system useful for larger quantities of similar products. Selectivity is lower, and lane depth, load consistency, rotation rules, and driver procedures require careful planning.
  • Cantilever racking: Arms extend from vertical columns without front posts, leaving the storage face open for long or bulky material. Arm length, load weight, spacing, aisle width, and lift-truck turning requirements determine the configuration. It is generally used for loads that do not fit standard pallet rack bays.
  • Push-back racking: Pallets sit on nested carts or carriers and move back as another pallet is loaded from the aisle. This provides multi-deep storage while keeping lift trucks out of the rack structure. It commonly supports last-in, first-out rotation, and the pallets must be compatible with the lane design.
  • Carton flow racking: Cases or totes move forward on inclined rollers toward the pick face as inventory is removed. Replenishment can occur from the opposite side, helping separate stocking from order picking. It supports fast-moving case and each-pick work rather than bulk pallet storage.

Warehouse Cubed compares the options within the full layout so rack capacity does not create avoidable congestion elsewhere in the operation.

Which Racking System Is Right for Your Warehouse?

The right racking system fits your load dimensions, inventory profile, access needs, lift equipment, building, and operating goals.

Key decisions include:

  • Loads: Pallet dimensions, weight, stability, overhang, and any long or irregular products
  • Inventory: SKU count, pallets per SKU, velocity, shelf life, and required stock rotation
  • Access: The number of pallet faces that must remain immediately available
  • Handling equipment: Lift-truck type, reach, capacity, turning radius, and guidance requirements
  • Facility conditions: Clear height, columns, slab, docks, sprinklers, egress, and available aisle space
  • Operations: Receiving volume, replenishment frequency, pick method, labor flow, growth, and seasonal changes

Our team uses this information to compare layouts, calculate capacity, and explain the operational tradeoffs. We can then design, source, and install the selected pallet rack system. If the project allows flexibility in dimensions and availability, used pallet racking may also be considered during material selection.

New vs. Used Pallet Rack Systems

Warehouse Cubed offers a wide selection of both new and used pallet rack systems. New industrial pallet racks are a great fit when you need exact sizes across every bay, a consistent finish, or a large rollout across multiple sites.

Used pallet rack systems can be a smart option when you need quality warehouse racking sooner or you want to stretch your budget. At Warehouse Cubed, “used” does not mean uncertain. Every used upright, beam, and connector is checked for fit, integrity, and safe performance before it is offered for sale.

For used rack systems, you may see cosmetic wear like scratches, scuffs, or paint chips, especially on beams. That normal wear does not impact safe use when the steel is sound. If a part is bent, cracked, or questionable, it does not go into your project.

What You Can Expect with Used Pallet Racking

  • Vetted components that are safe, stable, and ready to install
  • Compatible parts, including pins, anchors, and decking options
  • Layout help so your warehouse racking supports clean aisles and faster picks
